A few things bugged me about Bobby Valentine. First, the guy is an
insufferable bore, at least that's his public persona. Never been a fan
(though he wasn't a bad analyst.)

But the real problem I had was he was out of MLB for 10 years. A lot of
managers were hired over those 10 years and he rarely drew a sniff. This
wasn't Bill Cowher who is merely waiting for the right opportunity. This
guy was out there and never identified as a finalist for any post.

I think that says something.

We were one of the premiere franchises in baseball. We could have done
better.
