All,
Currently, living in an apartment (2nd story) has limited the size of tank I
have been comfortable keeping. Well, soon we will be moving into a new
house, so I am hoping to move into a new, larger tank. My LFS has a 170
gallon acrylic (not so happy about that, but it is lighter) tank and stand.
Also included are endcaps and ballast for 4 VHO bulbs, and a sump. He is
willing to sell me the whole thing for $400.00 bucks. Only problem is that I
will need to build (or have built) a canopy which is going to cost a few
hundred and the other real problem is that the front of the tank is pretty
scratched up. He knows a guy who will buff if you for $200.00. Bottom line
is that the total thing will cost me about a grand by the time all is said
and done.
My questions are:
1. Do you all think this is a good deal? It does not include any LR.
2. How hard would it be to buff the front of the tank myself? Has
anyone ever tried to buff the front of an acrylic tank? It has a lot of
scratches all over the front, so pretty much the entire front needs buffing.
Is what would be really cool is that I could set up this 170, then plumb my
70 that I currently have into it. I would love to do a reef tank in the 170,
then a species tank in the 70 with a captive bred carpet anemone and some
clown fish. The 70 is 36 x 24, so the carpet would have a ton of room to
grow. They would be linked into the same system for optimum water quality
for both tanks. Thoughts?
Final question,
In AZ, I believe they put the houses directly on a solid cement foundation.
Should I have any concerns with weight?
TIA,
Shane C.
