Hank, there are probably two differences in our disposition towards Democratic candidates:
1) they are much the lesser evil in these days of a renegade presidency.
2) here in NYC we probably have a better group of elected representatives among the Democrats. Charlie Rangel is my Congressman and most of our locals are really good and caring people. But we and San Francisco are the opposition to much of red state America and hated by them. I can imagine that Florida may offer you a much less winning set of of options. You have all those Cuban exiles who were fascists in many cases before the migrated to escape Castro. I gather the younger generation is more Americanized. We see this with our students as a port of entry college -- they are having to separate themselves off from their parents traditional values and figure where they fit in. Of course, their kids may become the next generation of conservatives, alas, once they get established. Best, Ed

I absolutely agree. I did not mean to give you or anyone the impression that I was opposed to civil disobedience. I think it is appropriate in the first instance -- if nothing but to test the waters, so to speak. Huge anti-war rallies didn't phase the British parliament or the U.S. congress though -- even as they were pointed to by them as an example of popular dissent.
We have a problem in the U.S. We do not have alternatives. We have no alternative political party. I am forced to vote Democratic even though I detest some of the policies supported by Democrats and I have no VIABLE choices. I have choices, as we know from the experience of 2000, to vote my conviction (maybe) and throw that vote away. Where is electoral reform? We must get rid of the electoral college. We must make it easier to get on the ballot in every state.
