Ed: When it comes to the House of Representatives, there isn't a better
group than the Black Caucus. From what I have read about Reconstruction,
right after the Civil War, we also had terrific Black politicians. But it
is difficult to find many as good as the Caucus, except for Bernie
Sanders, who of course is the only Independent (Socialst-Independent), who
votes predominantly with the Democrats and should have some kind of
honorary membership in the Black Caucus. Are there others?
And in the Senate, I can only think of a handful (maybe 10 of the 100)
which I think are really think of as LEFT or progressive. Why don't you
name them. My favorites are Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd (interesting how
many of the "good old boys" who were once segregationists are now the best
Senators) and if you count those who voted against giving Bush war power
those are probably the only few that I consider worthy of "representing"
progressives. I need to look that up.
Who else?
In Florida? Forget it... We only have 2 or 3 in the Florida legislature
that are pro-peace and "people before profits" legislators. You are
right; the rest are fascists. And there is America's conservative darling,
Katherine Harris.
