I hope I don't know the answer to this, but here goes.

It would appear that I have some CD's that are protected (foreign
language lessons) and would like to rip them or at least play them on
my computer.

I have tried a few flavours of Linux and Windows XP/Vista variants on
several computers.

None of the operating systems are able to read the CD, in fact my car
audio CD can't read it.

I have tried plugging a lead from the headphone output on a stereo into
my mic. input but just get a continuous tone.

I have also tried playing it from my DVD player, but when connecting
the audio outputs into my mic input (RCA- 3.5 jack) I get nothing.

Obviously I'd prefer an automated method, but am coming to the
conclusion that I my need to just sit with a microphone in a quiet room
(not easy to find) and record the stereo playing.

I'm not overly fussed about the quality as long as I don't get any
hiss.

Any ideas guys and girls, this could be really handy.

Ta

Mark
