I understand your need to checksum tags. It's a rational approach, mine is personal: I change my tags often and on a 80.000Ko flac file, there's usually only less then 10Ko of information. If sound data is lost and I don't have the original disc on hand, I can't do anything the forget the track. If only the track of a file is lost, I'm still able to fix it. With SMART + sound data checksumming + weekly backup, I feel comfortable. Furthermore, I know a disk can die without any warnings, but often (mostly?), disks dying "all of a sudden" have or could have sent SMART notices that were not seen. But SMART can't help you with lightning damages (Oh my god, my backup disk isn't electrically unplugged when unused!!! :) ) -- vrobin ------------------------------------------------------------------------ vrobin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11705 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39578 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
