Thanks for all the replys.

Ok - like I said, Linux is out for us. So I need a Windows tools.

I will replace the drive, but here's the rub - there are 0 SMART errors
(I'm using Everest to check). I suspect the corruption occurred when
the server hung and required a hard reset....and I'm pretty sure it did
not hang for disk reasons. So, to be cautious, I'll replace the drive,
but I actually suspect there is nothing wrong with the drive!

The PAR solution is interesting, and one I hadn't thought of - however
I do change tags regularly. I also found a tool (Advanced Checksum
Verifier) that will recurse a library and create or verify .sfv files,
one per folder. This works, and basically if I ran that once a week or
so, it would give me a reports on anything that had changed, so I could
check it - if I have done something with the tags, no problems, just
re-create the SFV. If not, then go to the main backup and restore the
files (and figure out what went wrong).

I'd prefer it run as a service and email me a report, but I can
probably automate with one of those automator thingies.

I'd love to move to linux on the server but there's some hardware in it
for taping TV that isn't supported and some other things we need for the
business that won't fly on linux.

I do get tired at the lack of scripting stuff on windows, or at least
old skool scripting. I'm not familiar with this powershell malarky.
