I have found problems ripping directly to a NAS or to a server, was very slow and occasionally no files produced. I now rip to the C drive, Tag, set the gain etc then transfer over to the NAS. I use dBpoweramp which uses AccurateRIP to ensure an accurate rip others use EAC, both very good although I find the dBpoweramp slightly better for classical/jazz as it can access the AMG database as well as freedb. I ditched itunes a while back only use it now to update the software on my ipods. I use mediamonkey for all management, it can convert on the fly from FLAC to mp3 when sending the files to the ipod. Itunes also had an annoying habit of putting the artwork somewhere else! I use mp3tag for embedding artwork into the files, it does mean that when you transfer one file from an album onto your ipod the artwork goes with it. Files are slightly larger but with disk space being cheap this isn't a worry now.
