I use iTunes to rip but do it APPLE LOSSLESS. You'll get EXACTLY the same sound as if you rip AIFF but take half the space. The only other consideration is that AIFF files play NATIVE and ALAC needs to go through a process using QuickTime and transcoding to FLAC while it's played. See above. FLAC and ALAC are both lossless formats and you will NOT be able to tell the difference from the original. Again, I use iTunes ripping to Apple Lossless. I also have MAX which I use to convert rip DTS or AC3 files to FLAC, and MAX will do ALAC as well, but I prefer the way iTunes handles tagging. This is done in iTunes as well. Once you've got the cover.jpg you drag it into the song/album info. iTunes can also grab the artwork itself, as can MAX. This sounds like you're talking about the web browser. Not sure what the problem is, but are you running your Mac server with a STATIC IP or DHCP?
