I haven't had any problems playing 24/96 through the SB3. I have ripped
DVD-A in 24/96 from a couple of discs, & played them via SB3, so it is
certainly possible (albeit acceptaing the fact that it simply drops
samples) i.e. for compatability with say a Transporter (maybe one
day...!) it is certainly possible.

I haven't done enough listening yet to say if I can hear the difference
between softare downsample against the SB3 way.

Can someone explain how downsampling could be done any other way?
I can see with upsampling you could do it in different ways e.g.
straight linear interpolation, or with a possibly better more
sympathetic approach that considers the rate of change of neighbouring
samples to make a 'better' estimate. I have a PT upsampler that
purports to do this.

With downsampling what process can be applied though?
