Agree about dbpoweramp - wonderful program.  Just holding off buying the
full version it at the moment as it'a due a version change.

Try checking that your drive hasn't changed from DMA to PIO?  Windows
key+ Pause-Break > Hardware > Device Manager > IDE ATA etc.  Right
click each of the IDE channels, Properties > Advanced Settings and
check that all transfer modes are set to "DMA if available"

Long shot, and apologies if that's teaching you to suck eggs, as they
say round my way.  And indeed possibly round your way, who knows! ;-)
