Thanks for all of your input. I installed the latest version of EAC and ran the configuration wizard. No luck. My Plextor is SATA and I checked the Device Manager and the channel my Plextor is attached to is indeed running in SATA. As to the drive being worn out, I guess that's possible. If I rip in burst mode though it goes very fast.
Maybe I am wrong and EAC has always been this slow in Secure mode for me. It's been a long time since I ripped any new cd's because I had switched from my Squeezebox to using a dedicated cd transport (I may go back if I can't get faster rips, circa 30 minutes is far too long).
