Yes, I wondered whether a simple multiple of 44.1 would be easier to
compute.  

As well as recording for the Squeezebox I also re-code/compress my
music to MP3 320kbs files for an MP3 player so it is intersting what
you say about the higher bit-rate original being better for
compression.  I had not thought of that.

In which case I will probably record the LPs as 24/88.2 originals and
downsample to 24/44.1 for the Receiver.
