At the start of "The Wall" you can hear someone say "...we came in", and at the end of "The wall" you can hear someone say "This is where...". i.e. it was specifically written as a single piece, NOT as two separate disks. "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" is another example of a long album being arbitrarily split across two disks. It plays much better as a single album, rather than two halfs. It starts with "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway", containing a familiar tune that is revisited in "The Light Dies On Broadway", which is on the second disk. Releases of The Wall and TTLDOB on DVD-Audio contain the whole album without split. Fortunately, such limitations have been disposed of now. I don't believe that artists really thought about where albums were going to be split. They recorded songs in a studio and the producer decided track orders; how best to fit the tracks on the media capabilities provided at the time. Albums frequently have different ordering between European and USA releases, because record producers think the markets would prefer them that way.
