If I were to want a multi-disk set to be ripped and kept like the original media it was distributed on (like I said, sometimes I do), I would use disk number tags, I'd never embed the media number in the album name. >seems to work well with ALL apps That will work equally in all apps - poorly (in my opinion). You can call an album whatever you like, or you could pretend an album is in fact two different albums and call each album whatever you like. Because that's what you are doing - there's no link between "The Wall (disc 1)" and "The Wall (disc 2)" - they become two separate albums. If you play random albums, it could select half of an album and not the other half. Your stats will also be incorrect, because "The Wall" would then be counted as two albums. >seemingly how gracenote (and even freedb) does it too Most tag info comes from users; Gracenote and freedb are DB's that aggregate submissions from users, and users have different ideas on tagging. dbPowerAmp seemingly gets disk number tags, so they use sources where disk numbers can be entered and retrieved, but sometimes multi-disk albums are submitted as one album, sometimes with disc numbers, and sometimes with with disk numbers in the album title.
