0-5 is good for me too, but some people like half stars, and i can't
fault that (0-10).

i don't want ratings either in SC or in the file tags to change based
on how i play the music. fine for others, not me.

my main beef at the moment is in not understanding the values. 0-100?
0-255? what does WMP use and does FLAC and others follow it?

thats no good for me. i think if WMP, MM, and Winamp all start to do
it the same way, thats a near de facto consensus, one that'll reliably
be cross app, and one that SC can begin to support natively, and the
tag is in the spec afterall.

moreover, i want the info in the file it represents, not in an abstract
DB that i don't trust, and that isn't easy to port. i mean, if you're
gonna do ratings tags in a db, why not all tags? why just ratings?
theres a reason you do it in the tags, and build the db from that.

winamp has its own db, and currently you can rate files in the db, but
the rating does not persist if u have to clear the DB. it keeps stats
too, again, only in the db.

however, many tags and the db are updated together for other fields,
like say "artist." i rarely need mp3tag b/c winamp does just about
everything i need it to, and it is insanely fast scanning files, (esp
rescans, and it picks up everything, unlike SC)

afaik, only WMP and MM support the POPM tag. i hope they do it the
same way, using the same values to mean the same thing.

the winamp guys don't care about MM or slim stuff much i don't think,
so my guess is they will try to do whatever they do with this to equate
with WMP and build a consensus that way. at that point, if they weren't
congruent, i'd assume SC and MM would work to becoming congruent, b/c
that would be the logical thing to do.
