i think its a mistake to assume either: 1. that other users would necessarily NOT want anothers ratings, or 2. that that should trump the issue of persistence. afterall, if someone does copy the files, (which in many cases is illegal, not that i'm bothered), they can change the ratings themselves. but most people getting my files, (hypothetically) would rather i just had rated them myself. what intrigues me about what you write about is the idea that POPM supports multiple users! thats very cool, how does it do it? erland;397802 Wrote: > Well, I think you can stop hoping, as Philip says ratings are a mess. > Almost every application available handles it differently, most store > it in their internal database and those that use the POPM tag use > different values for a 4 star rating. not what i've seen. WMP and winamp both use a 5 star rating, i assume MM does too, but maybe i am wrong. however, if both WMP and winamp do things the same way, i think others will gradually fall in line. of course, that remains to be seen, but thats what i'm trying to see get done, and if nothing else, at least i'll have ratings in winamp that persist. erland;397802 Wrote: > As I showed you earlier in this thread, I've code in Custom Scan to > compensate for this to make it possible to import ratings from both MM > and WMP so a 4 star rating in respective application becomes a 4 star > rating in SqueezeCenter. So unless something has change the last year, > which is highly unlikely, MM and WMP does NOT write the same values to > the POPM tag. have you used WMP? *it uses 5 stars.* i don't know what MM does, i've assumed the same. so, afaik, its: none/0, 1-5 with half stars possible as well. it may allow for more increments, i don't know. i very much appreciate what you've shown me, but my plan going forward is to get WMP and winamp on the same page, get other apps to fall in line and build a consensus, and then get SC to natively recognize it. i don't see the harm in that? -- MrSinatra www.LION-Radio.org Using: Squeezebox2 (my home) / SBR (parent's home) / SBC (my home) - w/SC 7.3.3b - Win XP Pro SP3 - 3.2ghz / 2gig ram - D-Link DIR-655 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59929 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
