the point was that if no rating was present, ie. "none" you as the person receiving that file from someone else would have to change it IF you wanted it to represent YOUR rating. you said you wouldn't want someone elses rating, well, NONE is someone elses rating, just as 1, 3, or 5 is. since when is a null value not a value? even if the frame doesn't exist, it is represented by the application as a null value nonetheless.
