I am a complete ripping newbie. I've got 2 Booms and 2 Radios, an iOmega network drive, a Duet to power them all, and about a thousand CDs. I want to rip all my CDs to the network drive and play them all over the house, as well as remotely (say, streaming them via the Internet when I'm not at home).
I have Windows Media Player 11 on my laptop (running Windows XP SP3). I have a broadband connection to the Internet. I have a firewall running, but it should not block album information from getting through. (Should it?) The first couple of albums I tried to rip show as completely unknown: artist/album/tracks -- everything. I started at ABBA (top of the alpha list). There is no way the album/artist/etc is unknown. I tried another album/artist -- same problem. I have googled the settings and options on Windows Media Player 11. I have looked up file types (BTW, I decided to rip to MP3 so my music will play on anything, if I decided to copy some music to my mobile phone, for example. -- Please tell me if there is a better file type for me to use. I am flying seriously blind here and my head feels like it's going to explode.) Anyway, I have hit a complete brick wall and have no idea what to do to make my rips work. Ripping is supposed to be straightforward, right? What can I do so it will work for me? Any useful advice would be deeply appreciated. TIA.
