As you said, this for me is the main problem with WAV (and I presume
AIFF as well), your setup may work as you want it to at the moment, but
once you try and use your library in a different way you can run into
trouble.

My opinion would be to deal with the pain once, perhaps even tackling
your library in sections over time, then when something else comes
along in a few years time the hard work is done and a simple automated
transcode is all you need to do. Do you never need to have an MP3
version for portable listening?
