I'm in the camp of wishing to have an ideal world where everything was really fine grained but finding that in the real world I do not have the desire to personelly expend the effort in updating everything and keeping it consistent - I actually want to listen to my music. Personally I find that this is not just a problem with genres but all aspects of tagging and digital music management. I have 4500 LP's sitting on shelves in no particular order other than the one I want and I can find 1 album very very quickly.
