I just recently spent a ton of time consolidating my genres into a more managable population (less than a dozen). I used multiple genres in certain instances, often to add whether an album is instrumental or contains vocals. The impetus behind getting the genres in order was to simplify some of the logic for SQL playlists. Excluding just a few genres provides a playlist palatable to the entire family. Most of the less broadly enjoyed stuff I tend to listen to as entire albums, so that works out well. Or I can simply shuffle on a given genre (which is excluded form the SQL Playlist).
