Are the car connections IPod or just 3.5mm mini jacks ? Good question - the adverts for cars with them usually just say "IPod connection". Does anyone have them and know ?
Trouble with the Cowon is that apart from the earphone output there is no other (it has a propietary input connector). And as you say I'd still trip over 24 bit tracks. Like I said - I don't want to have to maintain 2 libraries (one lossless, one not) or only be able to dump to the car non 24 bit files. That seems much more overkill than just trying to get a single solution which would never end. I just want to choose a piece of music and listen to it, without faffing about over whether it is 16, 24 bit, FLAC, Apple or whatever. I just want something that works universally (inc my audiophile stereo, so no compressed files thanks).
