After some false starts I have installed vlc player on iPhone 4.1 and copied 24/96 flac via scp. Once you rename the file with avi (!) extension they shure play without downsampling first. The player gui is as spartan as it can be (enough for movies, I suppose), application only recognizes files in one directory, did not see any tags.
