First, to be fair, my processing of ripping/tagging, etc. has always
been windows based (dbpa, mp3tag).  But I also have some linux stuff,
and use vortexbox for my server.

I may not have explored enough, but I didn't see in puddletag where I
could create ITUNNORM COMMENT field based on reading either the ALBUM
or TRACK replaygain information.  That is, convert (or even create) the
SOUNDCHECK value used in mp3 or AAC files by itunes/ithings based on
replaygain tags.

I like to have ALBUM gain, even in itunes/ipods, so this conversion
action within mp3tag allows me to do that.....
