Gary, I got freebee live and install cds at the RLUG Xmass Party. It was sitting on my desk from then until about two weeks ago. Then I put in the live cd. It booted fine, but was unable to detect my network connection or my USB keyboard.
- The desktop was gnome with most standard OS apps installed. Performance was as expected with a "live" cd, pretty bad. It seemed to me like many other default gnome desktops. Very similar to FC. Honestly, I agree with Dennis, in that many distros these days give you similar features. And if ubuntu get's you using linux vs. some other operating system, then by all means go for it.
