I run GNOME with (gack!) Metacity on my normal desktops, but find TWM
more than adequate inside VNC sessions. Really, the main advantage to
the memory hogs is DnD and automatically-updated menus. But, if you live
at the command-line, it's less of an issue than one might think.

I also like WindowMaker's virtual-screen flipping with a wheel mouse,
but found it a little too outdated for my tastes. I wish someone else
would adopt that!

Personally, I think the flexibility of being able to choose the WM is a
great feature of Linux. I just think there should be more support for
a generic menuing system, but I think that's unlikely.
