I'm not sure there. My friend recently mailed me a Compaq Pressario
2209CL which has a DVD player/burner and it's the first time I've had
one to mess around with. Perhaps we could do some testing.

Speaking of multi-OS booting. What are you planning on using for the
bootloader? I've always been partial to LILO. I dislike grub for no good
reason. I saw some things like OSL 2000 come up on a Google search
recently and wondered what sort of Open Source projects out there would
allow me to boot say 20 OSes off one hard drive. I need to check
freshmeat.net. In the end I decided to stick with VMWare.
