Apparantly they're supposed to be 1.4+ compatible (https://glassfish.dev.java.net/javaee5/mail/).

IIUC, these jars are compiled with JDK 1.5 because they're part of Java EE 5. If we want JDK 1.4 jars, Geronimo is a better solution.
