OK. I did an installation with the RC6 distribution indicated in the link.
Installed and did some very cursory testing.
I'm +1 (didn't get a chance to do more complete testing but it looks fine).
Pre-release requirements:
- Correct naming anomaly: The distribution has RC5 in the name but is in
the RC6 directory. I assumed this is RC6.
- No GPG sig. We should make one and have at least one other committer
verify.
Other notes:
- It was a from-scratch db creation, not an upgrade. I did not test the
upgrade path. Not sure if Matt's issue is
along this path.
- I used the latest support site required jars package and the mail and
activation jars from that, and tested that e-mail comments worked. I'd
suggest that we try to distribute the redistributable versions in 3.1, but
this works fine for now.

Umm, something is seriously wrong with your setup if you are getting null
pointers from those methods. That basically means the app can't get the
runtime properties from the db. There weren't any other exceptions?
I can't help but think it's better to provide the current behavior
(aggregated front page) as the default, but allow an admin to set a
blog as the front page if they like. It seems like having a blog as
the front page is required - which won't work well for sites like
JavaLobby.org.
I disagree. I think the way it works now is fine and has been working
great for us on blogs.sun.com. The instructions for setting the frontpage
weblog are very simple and straight forward IMO.
Also, there is no requirement at all that the frontpage be a weblog,
that's just the default behavior. If the JavaLobby guys don't want a
weblog on the frontpage then all they have to do is modify the index.jsp
file at the root of the app and do whatever they want.
