OK, I found a patched version of gettext for download at
http://www.tux.org/pub/sites/ftp.kde.org/devel/gettext-kde/ and I built
that and had a go with it.
It produced this:
#: ../gui/notationview.cpp:2121
#, c-format
msgid ""
"_n: 1 pixel\n"
"%n pixels"
msgstr ""
That doesn't look very plausible to me, but as we've established, I'm
pretty much all at sea here. What do you all think? I've committed
the newly generated .po files for the purposes of inspection at least.
