Right. But don't forget it is also because some of the right choices
are really hard to do, depending on your system. For example, running
JACK without a suitable kernel or trying to use the ALSA sequencer
system timer on a kernel with a 250Hz timer configuration. Kernel
stuff, basically, where you can't just drop the user out to tweak some
parameters and start again.

I have briefly considered the idea of a startup wizard before (along
with the new-document wizard for doing score-type documents) but I've
never got as far as working out exactly what it could do that was
genuinely helpful, beyond the couple of obvious warnings we can do
already in individual message dialogs. I do agree that in principle
it's an excellent idea, it's just a question of working out what the
questions and answers are.

To that end, we probably need to start trying to write down (purely in
text I mean) what things we know of already that can be wrong, and what
we can suggest is done about them. If it turns out that some of the
suggestions might actually be helpful, then we have something to go on.

I'll reply to a couple of the things Marcos mentioned in his email, as I
think they're both obvious candidates for appearance in a dialog like
this, and problematic things to actually do correctly.
