I see we are talking about durations in drum editor.
Some percussion instruments require a duration -- my old yamaha has a whistle
sound that is part of its drum section that requires a note off message to turn
it off. So I avoid previewing that sound in the matrix view, otherwise I have
to hit the panic button to turn it off--since the preview doesn't fire a note
off event.
Also some percussions or toggle types one will interrupt the other think of
things like open and closed hit hats. My old yamaha does this and my roland
actually is programmable with may sets of these toggles.
I think much of this has to do with the product we are talking about, and how
it constructs its various envelopes.
One can always program in the matrix editor then lie to RG and tell it it is
not a percussion instrument, then edit the durations in the matrix editor or
notation editor.
(Well, I think that works...I haven't tried that in a long time...I believe
that was a successful experiment...oh those darn second thoughts.....I'll try
it when I get the chance.)
But, that isn't very fun.
