In the past 10 years, I think I rejected two or three patches (except for
errors). The biggest one was the IBM one which would have tied us to GPL
eternally.

That's not how it works. We don't stop anyone from contributing code for
these features. The problem is that nobody does!

Look at the ML starting past month. Pavel Levshin has done some great
contribtions, even totally refactored liblognorm and its interface. Also he
gave me some hard punches in regard to how things worked ... what lead to
the big effort around v8 (which I coded, even though I did not have the
time to do so).

If you contribute kafka plugins, I'll gladly add them. Ask others, e.g. the
folks that worte the 0mq plugin, rabitmq, the initial ommongodb. Nobody had
problems getting things in. The primary stumbling spot getting features in
into rsyslog is a) not contributing code together with b) not contributing
money so that others can implement it. Nothing political here...

Again, I like this discussion, but it sounds like I eagerly guard rsyslog
against anything that is non-Adiscon. That's definitely not the case. All I
say is that there are many more folks that say "I want this feature" than
there are folks that want to go any further..
