that's right. but i think textmate is a special case. afaik there was no decent
text editor available for mac. so textmate fills this gap perfectly.

additional textmate profits from the rails community. it's a kind of "rails 
religion". 
something like the holy rails grail. the rails community is always at the 
emphasizes that only
rails with macos/textmate brings the joy of developing with ruby/rails.

so i think comparing RadRails and Textmate is a bit boldly. ;)

you could aim to get the usability and texmate bundles bundled into radrails, 
with some
commercial only RDT features. this could work. especially the linux community 
would love you. :)
even if they aren't willing to pay for software.

agree. sadly most user would use it with the wrong license i think.
