Hi All!

It is indeed unfortunate that it is so hard to sell to the S crowd, but I would
suggest that if one looked at what was really needed on the railroad, that it
might be possible to sell meaningful quantities. For most of us, I think, we
need kits that would be down at the tracks, not in town. We have too little
space to model much more than what is immediately adjacent to the railroad. I
still think there is room for more coal/ore tipple designs (smaller than BTS
version), brick/stone warehouse type buildings or modular brick/stone wall
system, a bulk oil facility, gravel/cement dealer and other corrugated
buildings, etc. Sheepscot Models did some wonderful kits in HO of the Lime
siding and the coaling tower which are the kind of design I think could sell in
S IF they were easier to build. I believe it was the N scale architect that
produced a neat coaling tipple in N, perfect for a one or two track facility in
S.

I also think that BTS and Bill Banta have both done an excellent job of making
kits that are useful.

Have fun!

I received this reply from Keith at Pinecanyon models in response to my
query about the new Howard's Drive-in kit.
I am forwarding this without asking Keith's permission, which might seem
rude, but my guess is that there is not privileged communication herein.
  It must be pretty discouraging...
