Has any thought of using the LokSound sound decoder in S scale locos?
They have many different speaker sizes to choose from and they work on DC
and DCC.

I installed one into my SHS F7, plugs right into the NMRA pins and used a
large speaker, sounds great.

ScaleGP-9

Hi Guys

We have used a couple of different brands of speakers in GPs, F units, SD
60s, AM Northerns and the 2-10-0 that Jim K mentioned. Here's some links.

These are made by Kobitone and 4 of the 6 listed at the top of the page have
plastic frames so you can fab a styrene enclosure with Testors plastic
cement or MEK. They're rated at 1 watt and put out more sound then you'll
need.

We've also used these made by Projects Unlimited at the bottom of the page.

These also have plastic frames and fabbing an enclosure is easy. They even
come in 4 ohm so you can use 2 in series - we tried that in an E unit to
simulate 2 prime movers. These are the same brand rectangular speakers you
can buy from TTX or Soundtraxx for 2 or 3 times the price.

Incidentally, the 20 mm wide speakers fit into narrow hood units and we have
one in an AM GP9. It fits just fine over the towers as long as you don't
make the enclosure too tall - 3/8" tall IIRC. And it has plenty of
volume.

Try a 28 mm x 40 mm in a SHS F unit and you'll never use the stock speaker
again.

The PBL round speaker comes with an enclosure and is a bargain for around
$15. Don't know what the wattage rating is but it sounds loud enough for
me. They also make a couple larger ones but we don't know what boilers
they'll fit into. But we'll find out eventually!
