You're right about being able to use the points shorted, but only if I
switched them for track power and removed all the copper from under the
stock rails.

Hi Ed K......Not sure that is really needed. Why not leave everything just
the way it is and depend on the point pressure against the stock rails for
electrical contact/power for the points? No need for switches/contacts/etc.
at all. Leave the points shorted to each other. So what? Use SwitchMaster
turnout motors for good strong point pressure. I have over 75 turnouts done
exactly this way and they work just fine. Yep, all my points are shorted.
Just the way it is around here. Just need to be sure the track AND wheels
are all properly gauged so that the backside of the wheels do not graze the
open point rail. Got all that? It is not necessary to believe all the BS
floating around about making turnouts DCC friendly. Most of that is just a
poor excuse for having the track and/or wheels out of gauge in the first
place. Cheers....Ed L.

Subject: Re: {S-Scale List} Re: Wiring Mystery

Hey Ed,
I've had a lot of good suggestions. I wish everyone would answer on list so
others would benefit from their wisdom.

The top to bottom short had not occurred to me. You're not the first to
mention it. I think it is really the only possibility left.

There is no short anywhere else. I've electrically isolated this turnout.
In fact, I've cut all the feeder wires to the rest of the track. It all
rings dead with no shorts.

You're right about being able to use the points shorted, but only if I
switched them for track power and removed all the copper from under the
stock rails. I don't want to do that. I guess I'm going to have to
unsolder the throw bar. I've run out of options.

Thanks again to all.
