They've already been mentioned, but Des Plaines Hobbies has brought out some 
nice new box cars, the Evans RBL and the FMC double-door cars.  And new 48 & 
53 foot RTR containers.  The fact that you shun the modern world is your 
loss -  and ours too, of course.

I don't suggest you jump right into the 21st century, but you might at least 
find the latter half of the 20th century satisfying to model. You could skip 
right over the Penn Central era and get into Conrail.

Model railroading is doing fine as a hobby, but S is bound to die if it 
continues to be populated solely by people who use it as an escape from 
modern reality.

Anyone who can say (as Mr AM once did, I think) that modern railroading is 
boring, is missing something in his little model RR soul.  Take a look at 
these pictures by Mr Brian Kreimendahl for example.
