and he notes -

The Southern gondola looks like a fine model, not only for its
meticulous detail (which would make any Chinaman pale) but it is easy
to assemble, which makes it an asset to anyone not possessing expert
modeling skills (like myself) - and that is very important because it
can be used on a Hi-Rail layout as well as scale and THAT is an
excellent selling point. There is no way of knowing how many kits
went to Hi-Railers. It may be a small number but why doesn't the
Company offer a kit with Hi-Rail flanges. SHS and AM do and sales are
apparently good enough in that area to keep both companies in
business. By doing so and with no modification to the basic castings,
a kit could be offered at little or no increase in price.

Please don't sell Hi-Railers short. In fact THEY drive the market and
SHS (and AM) shoot for them and scale enthusiasts reap the benefits
with a variety of models. Anybody experienced in sales will know that
the primary target is the highest potential sales.

A few posters have echoed my predictions and they are not as dire as
it sounds - But it would be interesting to know what the sales
numbers are for the rest of the line are.

BTW - buying a kit from SMMW is no different than buying a car from
SHS. Some assembly is required...
