  Wow ! How did you miss all those N scale discussions about their
oversize truck mounted couplers and pizza cutter wheels? I've dabbled
in N scale for a couple years and find it just as fractured as S
scale, or O scale for that matter.
  N "hirail" is just as bad as American flyer for scale fidelity, even
low profile N wheels and body mounted MTL couplers are quite
oversize.Of course N is a lot smaller size so it is harder to see the
errors than in S scale. 
 If you want to see the relative looks of N, S, And O models built to
the same level of effort go to the Model Train Wiki and look under
user ctxm in the image gallery.

  Each scale has it's advantages and best applications. It's all good.
