Rhett...
Let's keep a perspective on all this. Just because a handful of
other folks like to discuss/argue over which coupler is "best" is no
reason to let THEIR conversation affect YOUR enjoyment of S scale.
Use whichever coupler you like and continue on with the enjoyment of
your hobby. The size advantage and operational superiority of S
scale are not changed one whit because of a coupler decision. Let
the other guys have their dialog to their heart's content. Lurk and
listen if you want. Then make your own coupler decision and proceed
with your choice. These kinds of discussions are truly endless and
will not reach a unanimous conclusion during your lifetime. Keep a
transition car or two on a siding in case a train buddy brings over
some S rolling stock with non-compatible couplers and wants to run
them on your layout. A small price to pay.
Sooner or later the following questions will arise with similar
unending discussions: which rail size is best, which scale -- S or
HO -- is best, why don't they make XXXXX, I want XXXXX, what is the
definition of "modern", what is the definition of hi-rail, is DCC too
complex for me, when will XXXXX be released, does brass run well, why
is XXXXX late, what is new, and so forth. Wha'cha gotta do is keep
yer head down and focus on what makes you happy. Build it and
solicit advice if needed and ignore all the side conversations
unless, of course, your hobby is "railroad baloney" in which case
jump right in and enjoy yourself.
Have fun...Ed L.
