When I was experimenting with curve radius before I began constructing
a layout, I tried a 30" radius, since I was (am) using shorter rolling
stock which included a lot of AF conversions.

Even at that, I found 30" a little tight, and settled on 36". I don't
believe I would go below 32" in any case, if you can avoid it.

When I lay out curves, I use a 1/4"x1/2"x 8ft. piece of stripwood to
lay them out. This will provide automatic easements. I also have a
couple of pieces of the old Tru-Scale 36" radius wood road bed that I
use to set the stripwood to the correct radius, then I hold it in
place with screws and butt the track against it.
