Hi John --

While I never ran one of those things, I certainly stood beside one doing 
switching.   The prime mover revved a good bit before the loco moved.   In 
more modern engines this might not be the case...

On a related topic, there has been some debate on the DCC Sound
Lists about throttle position, prime mover RPM, and movement of the
loco. Some argue that the motor should rev up before movement, and
others argue that throttle position "one" should cause movement
without increase in prime mover RPM. I am still waiting to hear
which is correct from someone who ran the real things.
