Rhett and others:
Jeff will be at the "S" & "O" West meet in Santa Clara. I think
the cost is $30 for the three days, the Banquet isn't a banquet and
runs about $10. The tours are free. The clinics are usually by well
know modelers that have been published. You will get to talk to the
Korean builders if you want. We should have about 40+ "S" scalers this
year. Most are from the west coast. I think there are 5 "S" layouts on
the tours. All of them are operable and fully scenic and have been
featured on the covers of many magazines.
I think the hotel has a shuttle to both airports, SFO and San
Jose, which is about 4 miles from the hotel. There are other
resturants with in walking distance from the Hotel, up to about 1/2
mile. One really neat thing is the local Light Rail service is next
door to the hotel and you can go to tons of nice eatery's on Castro
St. in Mt View, about a 6 mile ride away. I think a day pass is about $2.
I've often considered doing a one day thing for the "S" scalers. We
would take light Rail from the hotel, go to Mt. View and get on the
Baby Bullet to San Francisco, take the Muni light rail to the
Embarcadero and catch a ferry to Sausilito. Dink around the over
priced shops, have lunch and head back. The round trip travel costs
are about $20 per person. You get to see the "City by the Bay" from
the bay. The only risk is the possibility of rain.
Last but not the least, there won't be any snow here and no
freezing temperatures. It may get cold, 40 degrees at night.
