My impressions of the turnout discussion last week is that there are several
turnouts out there that almost come close to consistently being in gauge and
meeting all the appropriate specifications after a bit of tweaking. But there
does not yet exist a RTR turnout that exactly meets ALL of the specs without
any tweaking at all. Apparently the Whiteoak Models turnouts were very good,
but are no longer available. So the question is: how much is the elimination
of tweaking worth in dollars and cents? Tweaking is not hard, but can be time
consuming. Not needing to do it at all means the layout itself can progress at
a faster rate. Elimination of tweaking means the manufacturer needs to spend
more time/cost to make things more exact. Who knows what is best or maybe
there are two "bests" -- one for those with money and little time and a
different "best" for those with lots of time and little money. Room for
everyone on this planet. Just musing. Obvously an idle day around here.
Cheers...Ed L.
