Hi Terry --

I was operating a C&O 2-10-4 on 48" radius without complaint until the paint
wore through and the trailing truck shorted to the frame. This problem
persisted until I made some clearance on the frame and changed the amount of
play within the wheelsets and the truck frame. Otherwise, the loco
negotiated #6 turnouts (modified Shinohara)...

The new layout uses 54" radius as an absolute minimum and #8 or greater
turnouts on the main, and the big Texas has no problems now.

Be sure that your turnouts are "circular" when they are this sharp -- no
large change in direction all at once (like the Shinohara #6's).
Smoothness is the key. Remember, in real life this loco probably required
a minimum radius of what would be 85" or more in S.

Have fun!
