Looking at the specs for the battery (14.8 volts) and the decoder, you 
could fit both in a 40-foot S-scale boxcar and run a set of wires to the 
engine to power the motor. These are designed for garden railroads, but 
it looks like the technology is already small enough for S. The two 
wires could be disguised as brake lines. If I only had about $400 to 
spare right now...
