Bill and Bob (and others) make some excellent points. Although there is some
hobby value to the "purchasing and planning" side of the hobby, from my own
experience, the "doing and building" part of the hobby is much more gratifying
and generates much more interest in the hobby.

The idea of building a module or a shelf layout is a very exciting concept. In
a relatively short period of time, with minimal investment, trains can be
running, structures have a home, and scenery skills can be exercised.

It would be interesting to keep track over 2011 of the number of members of
this group that got trains running in their homes for the first time during the
year. What better time than now?

Let's make 2011 the year of the operating S scale model railroad!
