After moving to North Carolina from Maryland two years ago I was having a hard
time in making progress on my new large home layout.

I realized that I needed to do something to keep my interest in the hobby up.
I built a 2' by 8' portable switching layout I could take to train shows and
community events (see article in NASG Dispatch). This gave me the opportunity
to get trains running quickly and try out various scenery techniques. It was
also my first experience with DCC. My interest is back and I'm having a great
time sharing the hobby with others.

A small layout worked for me.
